Some of the strongest brand stories do not need to be invented. They need to be recognized, shaped, and given the right human frame.
The story
Patrick Howarth, ExxonMobil’s global lead for lithium, sat down with Dr. M. Stanley Whittingham, the Nobel Prize-winning chemist whose research at Exxon helped lay the foundation for lithium-ion batteries. Their conversation created a direct link between the company’s scientific past and its emerging lithium ambition.

The creative approach
Rather than treating the meeting as a conventional interview, the film uses the dialogue as both a strategic and emotional anchor. The visual and editorial structure traces a clear line from foundational battery science to electric vehicles, modern energy systems, and ExxonMobil’s current strategy.

The outcome
The film transformed an abstract business initiative into a credible, human story of innovation coming full circle. It gave the lithium strategy context, ownership, and a narrative grounded in the company’s authentic history.
