The assignment was not simply to photograph executives differently. It was to change how leadership—and the company behind it—felt.
The challenge
ExxonMobil’s leadership imagery needed to move away from stiff corporate formality and toward a more transparent, contemporary, and human presence. The new approach also had to work consistently across annual reports and a broad range of corporate communications.
The creative approach
The photography strategy focused on authentic moments, natural expressions, and the unguarded spaces between posed frames. A cooler tonal treatment helped separate the work from the warm, heavy visual conventions of the energy category, while still keeping skin tones and environments credible.
The outcome
The portrait system gave ExxonMobil a more approachable and consistent leadership presence across key touchpoints. It supported the larger brand refresh by making the people behind the company feel more visible, engaged, and real.
